Spring Break at Perkins Telescope Observatory
Over spring break in 2025, Prof. Mia and BOBA lab member Sam Kleiman spent four nights on the telescope at the Perkins Telescope Observatory.
The research goal was to study low surface-brightness dwarf galaxies around Milky Way analogs. During the observing run, we were able to test the new Hα filters that Prof. Mia commissioned for the telescope, and they worked very well. Thanks to the filters, we obtained some images with much higher spatial resolution than existing literature measurements.
Sam led most of the observing run and got some great data for his future thesis. And we also visited the Grand Canyon!
